Boun Khao Punsa 


(Beginning of Buddhist Lent) English Version


With hard work and dedication from the Lao Buddhist Temple of North Philadelphia Committee and volunteer members, we’d like to announce our annual celebration of the start of Buddhist Lent, known as
Boun Khao Punsa, which is a very important day in our Buddhist religion! 


We invite any and everyone that would like to give alms, make merit, provide good deeds and faith, to please join us as we celebrate Boun Khao Punsa. The celebration will take part the weekend of July 24th and 25th, 2021. 


Saturday July 24th, 2021


We are looking for donations of beeswax this day. On this day, the beeswax will be used to make candles for the candle procession that will be held the following day.


Food Donations will be accepted for our monks. If you wish to drop by with a food item/platter/tray to have served to our monks, please do  so from 9am -11am. This way there is enough time for the food to be presented and served.

Starting at 1pm, there will be preparations starting including, but not limited to, the making of candles and preparing donations. 


Sunday July 25th , 2021


Food Donations will be accepted for our monks. If you wish to drop by with a food item/platter/tray to have served to our monks, please do  so from 9am -11am. This way there is enough time for the food to be presented and served. 


  • 9:30 am - Beginning of the custom religious ceremonial activities
  • 10:30 am - Prayers start and Alms-Giving (Thuk Baht) 
  • 11:00 am - Donations of food presented/served to Monks


There will also be a candle procession around the temple to commemorate the start of Lent.


Once the customary religious ceremonies are complete, there will be a performance by the band “
Sai Nam Ngurm” for your entertainment. There will also be appetizers, snacks, beverages and other items available for purchase. 


Bring your families and friends to join us on this joyous occasion, as we go back and partake in our custom religious ceremonies, alms giving (thuk baht), making merit and other offerings to our temple.
Please remember, if you are not feeling well or have a fever, please consider staying home. As the world opens up, we must still remember to protect ourselves and each other.
